Palace is full of very good quality wall carving and profusely decorated with sculpture and gold painted ceiling. It also displays a 200 kg gold royal throne. Now it is a museum. It has a colorful history. Palace is demolished many times controlled(by tipu sultan) and uncontrolled(fire and lightning). It is living place for royal families of Wodeyars.
It is very big with many chambers, halls an durbar. We are not able to see it in lighting because that happens only on weekend, people say it is far better in artificial light. It has about 1 lakh of lighting bulbs. There are many temples surrounding the palace inside the boundary wall.
It opens from 10 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. Highly suggested if you like visiting wall carving, sculpture, monuments.
